Wind Effects and Comfort of Bicyclists in Urban Areas

With the densification of existing city space and the simultaneous requirement for a high life quality city planners and architects strive to create an attractive design of our future urban habitat. To do that different environmental parameters such as wind and daylight are considered by using proven and cutting-edge simulation techniques. For wind comfort of pedestrians in urban areas detailed criteria are available to assess the comfort quality of future urban space. For bicyclists, however, no comparable study has been conducted to develop corresponding comfort criteria.

This project aims on closing this gap and to learn more about the wind effect on bicyclists. The aim is to eventually define comfort criteria, which can be used to interpret simulation results in terms of bicycling quality. Read more...
